I would think most Catholics in the blogosphere have heard about this story, but in a nutshell a student in Florida took a host out of mass to keep as some kind of show and tell, and in mocking reaction to the shock of Catholics everyhwere, University of Minnesota professor P.Z. Myers promised to find and desecrate a host himself.
It appears he has done it.
The only words that come into my head in regard to him and the people who delight in what he has done are those of Jesus on the Cross while people mocked Him and spit upon His crucified body the first time around...Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.
Please join me in praying for this man and those cheering him on.
Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Sad - if he were intentionally trying to offend members of a different religion - Muslims, perhaps - he'd be shouted down for it.
But anti-Christianity (and moreso, anti-Catholicism)? Oh, that's the enlightened thing to do.
Well to be "fair", he did claim he involved a Koran in the desecration as well. :-P
Cripe. A two-for-one deal.
I was coming back to say that I hoped he *didn't* go on to target any other groups.
On one hand, you (general you, not you specifically, though you might as well!) pray God have mercy (on him, and on those who are encouraged by his actions). On the other hand, you kinda almost wish something *would* happen that would demonstrate that this is a Bad Thing.
...but then many of us would deserve lightning bolts from above as well for myriad other things.
God have mercy, and may some good come from this.
(I will now go watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgvJg7D6Qck to feel a little better)
Yeah...it's not often someone manages to simultaneously offend one-third of the world's population (Catholics and Muslims, plus perhaps Orthodox, if they think our Eucharist is valid).
I think we should pray for him privately and ignore him publicly. He's obviously got some sort of complicated psychological issues.
